Dental Bonding in Prairie Village, KS
With the straight forward placement of a natural tooth colored filling material; remarkable treatment results can be attained. Bonding, a dental restorative procedure alternative to veneers, can be used to repair teeth that are chipped, cracked, discolored, and misaligned. Additionally, spaces/gaps between teeth can be aesthetically closed.
How does it work?
The tooth or teeth are prepared by modifying tooth structure where indicated. The tooth is then prepared for the procedure by lightly etching the surface with a special gel and then applying a bonding adhesive. A plastic resin filling material that matches the tooth color is applied and sculpted by the dentist and then cured with a special LED curing light. Once set, the resin is trimmed, smoothed and polished to a natural appearance. Usually this type of procedure will require the use of a local anesthetic.
Considerations
The bonding procedure can often be completed in a single office visit, and significantly improve the appearance of a tooth or teeth. However, since the plastic resin used is not as strong as your natural tooth enamel, it maybe more likely to stain, chip or break than natural teeth. Bonding typically lasts three to five years before need of repair or replacement. We advise patients to avoid biting into hard food or substances and avoid habits that puts excessive pressure on the bonded tooth.
